Before you plan to travel in 2023.. These are the most dangerous and safest countries

You can compare countries and analyze potential risks before visiting them, through an interactive travel map for 2023, highlighting the risks of traveling to countries that pose a risk to visitors, according to several factors, from lack of health care, through road safety, physical security, to the presence of conflicts.

It is a map provided annually by one of the leading companies in the field of medical services and labor protection abroad, and includes destinations that pose a danger for people wishing to travel, as well as the safest countries, according to a report published by the Spanish newspaper "Confederation".

The international company "SOS" relies on three basic criteria, namely road traffic, medical care and safety, within an interactive map that enables the traveler to compare countries and analyze potential risks before visiting them.

Road safety

According to the mortality rate issued by the World Health Organization, as of 2018, Spain has a low mortality rate, that is, an average of ten deaths per one hundred thousand people, which makes it among the countries that are not too dangerous for its visitors.

The same is true for most Western European and Nordic countries, with similar figures. However, countries located in the east of the continent, such as Bulgaria, Romania and Ukraine, have a higher rate, with the number of deaths ranging from ten to 19.9 per one hundred thousand citizens.

And most of the unsafe countries in terms of driving, according to the International "SOS" map, are concentrated in Africa.

In the Americas, there are only three regions with high road insecurity, where more than 25 deaths per hundred thousand inhabitants were recorded, namely Venezuela, Puerto Rico and Belize (in Central America).

Spain recorded a low percentage of risks from medical care for tourists, in line with the neighboring countries of the continent. According to SOS International, this means that Spain provides "high-quality medical care available throughout the territory, competent and emergency services, along with a low risk of disease, as well as the availability of these services in different languages".

Moreover, emergency evacuation is a rare occurrence. In the rest of the continent, former Soviet states such as Bosnia, Serbia and Bulgaria, as well as Romania, Ukraine, Belarus, Lithuania and Latvia have an average level of health care, with the exception of Kosovo, which represents "significant risks" in terms of health care.

In the rest of the world, the levels of "severe" medical insecurity stand out in Guinea, Burkina Faso, Niger, Libya, the Central African Republic and South Sudan, as well as Yemen, Somalia, Burundi, Eritrea and Iraq, as well as Syria, Afghanistan, Venezuela and Haiti, characterized by few and low-quality primary services.

In addition, food-or water-borne infections and even life-threatening diseases such as cholera and malaria are rampant in these cities, which may "require an international emergency evacuation," according to SOS.

Physical security

In terms of security, which is mainly related to the absence of terrorism, war, occupational hazards, dependence, violent crimes, political and social unrest, Spain is a low-risk destination for visitors, like many other European countries such as Sweden, the United Kingdom or Italy.

Morocco is also a low-risk destination for visitors, as are Canada, the United States, Namibia, Zambia and Australia. Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Finland, Denmark, as well as Luxembourg, Switzerland and Slovenia are also among the calmer countries, not posing a danger to visitors.

The least safe countries in this category, that is, those that pose a "serious danger" to their visitors, are Mali, Libya, the Central African Republic, part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Nigeria, as well as Somalia, Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan and Pakistan, and part of Ukraine.

In turn, we find a "high risk" in some regions of Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Colombia, as well as Haiti, Venezuela, Mauritania, part of Kenya, Myanmar, Papua New Guinea, India, Iraq, as well as the region of Chechnya and part of Ukraine, southern Madagascar and eastern Tanzania.

Differences by Regions

It is noteworthy that the method adopted by the international company "SOS" would award a unique score for each country, but there may be internal differences between the regions, according to the newspaper "Confederation".

For example, large cities may have better access to high-quality medical care, while remote or rural places are more likely to have limited availability of health facilities and competent care.
