Why the Nuggets Reign Supreme: More Than Just Championship Glory
The splendid Nugpuppies. The maestros of the court. The Nuggerinos.
Indeed, the Denver Nuggets stand as the unrivaled team in town. And it's not merely due to their 2023 NBA title triumph. It's the unwavering commitment and passion displayed every time they hit the court, regardless of the lineup. These Nuggets players invest their all, not only for themselves but for their devoted fans. It's a spectacle I relish more than any other.
Having the world's top professional basketball player leading our Mile High squad undeniably solidifies my perspective.
Certainly, other Colorado sports teams exhibit unparalleled dedication to each other and their fans. I find enjoyment in Rockies, Avs, and Broncos games too. (Apologies, Rapids and Mammoth, I'm not as acquainted with your prowess.) Yet, there's an exhilaration unique to the NBA – the acrobatic moves, precision training, physical finesse, and spontaneous playmaking. Since the league introduced fines in 2023, instances of flopping (yes, LeBron, we see you) have dwindled, allowing fans to savor players' extraordinary skills without being deterred by theatrics.
Having migrated from the East Coast in 1990, I swiftly developed a fondness for the team and its iconic players – LaPhonso Ellis, Dikembe Mutombo, Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, and the roster that followed. Nuggets fans weathered seasons of setbacks, cherishing what players brought into their lives as representatives of the Centennial State. Rooting for the underdogs was a delight for a while.
Then, in 2015, the basketball deities smiled upon us, bestowing Nikola Jokic upon the Nuggets. A year later, Jamal Murray joined the ranks, forming a dynamic duo that exemplified selfless play and teamwork.
Who can resist the brilliance of a Joker pass to the Blue Arrow for a late-game three-pointer? It's a moment of exhilaration that transcends any sport.
Laura Keeney, a devoted fan, flew back to Denver for an NBA finals game and journeyed to Philadelphia to cheer on her beloved Nuggets. She asserts, “I’d go as far as to say the Nuggets are one of the best sports teams overall, not just in Colorado."
She adds, "For me, the x-factor with the Nuggets has to be that they play for each other, as opposed to stroking superstar egos and striving for individual glory. We have a once-in-a-lifetime talent in Jokic (which is reason alone to mark them as No. 1), but even rarer is that he’s surrounded by a group of guys who unselfishly put each other first, and genuinely seem to like each other."
Keeney believes Coach Michael Malone's culture in the locker room is groundbreaking, destined to be studied for years to come. Now, it's all about running it back and aiming for the next championship, isn't it?
